Home Tour-My House

So it dawned on me that if I am showing off other homes, that you guys might be interested in seeing my home.  Let me preface by saying when we bought our home 4 years ago it was a foreclosure and we had to put on rose-colored glasses to really see its potential.  Our home needed a lot of work, and although we have done a lot, they are still many more projects on the “to-do list”.

So with that said let’s start with the Master Bedroom:

Although our room is small, it is all we need.  I mean all we do is sleep in here…well, I guess some other stuff too. 🙂  The glass antique door leads to our closet.

Next up the Master Bathroom:

This has been our largest home project yet.  We gutted the whole room took out the closet and added a walk in shower and bathtub.  I absolutely love the spa feel.  There are no windows in this room so I knew I needed to make it light and bright, success!

Onto my Little Boys Room:

Lots of color and books and space to read.  We do not keep toys in their room because they would never go to sleep.  But they do love to look at books so we keep plenty of those around!

Now the Family Room:

This is where we spend most of our time.  Of course I look at this and think about how I want to paint the walls and the entertainment center a lighter color, but that would be a lot of work!  My husband built the shelves.

Next up the Timeout Hallway:

I did paint the “Be Kind to Others” canvas.  I copied it from one I found online…don’t tell.

The Main Bathroom off of the family room:

We tiled, painted, new light, and redid the cupboards and frame around the mirror.  I also painted this painting as well.

Then onto the Kitchen:

You would never guess but in this kitchen I can cook, get things out of the fridge, and clean the dishes without ever moving my feet.  It is fantastic 🙂

The Living Room:

It is nice to have a room set apart from the main part of the house that is usually kept clean.  This way when visitors come over they is at least one room that is presentable.  And you might sense a theme here, but I painted the one over the fireplace…art work is just too expensive, so I do my own!

I guess I could have started here since this is what you see when you first come into my home.  But it is not one of my favorites.  It is pretty small and therefore makes it difficult to greet and say farewell to our visitors, but we make it work.  (Yes, I am a quilter as well.)

Down to the Basement:

I teach preschool out of my home, so this part of the house is taken over by my kids and lots of others 3 and 4 year olds.  It is nice to have this big space for children to play, especially in the winter when we never see the sun!

Downstairs Bathroom:

Not my favorite part of the house.  I think this was a last minute addition of those who finished the basement.  But it works and someday we will do something more with it.

Almost done, stick with me…The Guest Room:

It is great to have a guest room for family and friends to stay.  This room has been used many times and we love when it is.  Come visit anytime!

Last room is the Office/Craft Room:

This has been my current project for a while now and it still is in the works.  To see more of the office go here, here and here.

So that is it, our home.  If there is anything you want to see more of or hear more about please let me know in the comments.  I would love to do more posts on things you guys are interested in.  Thanks for coming to visit!

8 year anniversary

Who knew these kids…

Would do this…

And 8 years later would grow into this…

Thank you for treating me like a queen and making me your #1

Live For Pink

About a month ago I saw a post on DownEast Basics Facebook page (They are a fantastic clothes store that I love!):

Reminder– If you’ve been impacted by breast cancer, DownEast wants YOU. We’re looking for women to appear in a group photo wearing our limited edition pink tees and camis that we sell during our annual “Live for Pink” fundraising campaign in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Those of you who do not know me…no, I do not have breast cancer, my mom did. So I sent in my 150 word application:

“She was not there at my high school graduation, when I married the man of my dreams, or after I bore my son. Unfortunately my mother was taken from me when I was a couple weeks shy of turning 13. She died at the young age of 53 after an extensive battle with breast cancer. Although it was 13 short years with my mother, I will always have her in my heart and remember the years that I was fortunate enough to call her mom. Although I do not have her here with me physically her legacy will live on. Her strength through a 5 year battle with cancer, her love for children as an elementary school teacher for 20 years, her patience with raising 6 children of her own. Sixteen years since her passing I still think of my mother every day. She is and always will be a part of me and has taught me to be stronger, show more love and to be extra patient. Thanks mom for the lessons you taught me. I look forward to many more years and lessons from you in heaven.”

I was chosen with 11 other fantastic ladies. I had the opportunity to spend the morning feeling like a super model. Clothes, make-up, hair, photos and lots of new friends.

They told us that out photo will be posted in their 50+ stores and in the September and October catalog that it send out to over 75,000 homes. It was a great experience that I will never forget, plus I got to keep the cute pink shirt!

Thank you DownEast!

My Vanity

You know how you hear that you can tell a lot about a lady by the contents of her purse?

Well, I woke up this morning and thought the same thing about all the items on my vanity.

So I thought I would share with you a little about me…

#1 Picture of my mom: My mother passed away from breast cancer when I was 13.  She is my daily reminder of strength and courage.  I love and miss you, mom!

#2 Flower Headband: I do not like my hair in my face so I have a good handful of headbands.  Usually I wear the black elastic no-slip ones that you can see hanging from the white canister.  But when I want to dress it up I wear one like this flower one.  Thanks to my sister, Heather for mailing it to me for my birthday last year.  It is one of my favorites.

#3 Piece of a Spider Man Toy:  This is evidence that my kids are always close by my side.  Do you ever want to yell, “Can I at least pee alone?”  Well I do, and I know I should treasure these moments with small children hanging on my apron strings, but not while I am trying to go to the bathroom!

#4 CHI:  I love my Ceramic Hair Iron.  I have extremely thick hair and this is the only thing that tames it.  My hair dresser tells me that she has only felt one head of hair thicker than me and that lady was African-American!  So thank you CHI for making it so I can go out in public, well without scaring anyone!

#5 Mullein Flower Oil: My ever patient mother in law grew mullein, picked the flowers and created this oil that reduces pain and speeds recovery time of minor cuts and burns.  We have used it many times, but It think this time it was out because I had a cut on my finger.  Why do small cuts on your finger, sometimes hurt the worst?

#6 Cream: This cream was prescribed to me by my dermatologist.  I have been cursed with extremely dry skin.  Actually I grew up in Southern California where the air is full of moisture.  So now living in Utah, especially during the winter, I need this cream or I scratch so much I make my skin bleed.  So a layer of this goes on after I get out of the shower.  (Do not worry we are saving for a water softener that will help, I can’t wait!)

#7 Contact Case and solution:  Yes I wear contacts!  I wish I could get Lasik but they say to wait until you are done having children because your eyes change a lot during pregnancy and we do not want to have to pay for the procedure twice.  Someday I will be able to wake up and actually see who I am sleeping next to and not just a blurry face!

#8 Eucerin Face Lotion with SPF 25:  Again with the dry skin.  But for my face I know lotion with sun protection is important.  Even though I think I have already caused the damage resulting in large wrinkles when I get old, because of all those days at the beach when I was younger.

#9 Great Lash Mascera: I think i have used this brand of mascera since I started wearing makeup.  Something about the pink bottle and green lid that is easy to find at the store and great price.  And how did my boys get extremely long and dark eyelashes when I go through a bottle of this stuff every month?

#10 My mom’s gold wedding band: If you look close you can see a ring on top of the candle.  One of the items I treasure from my mother.  I had taken it off because it cut into my finger and gave a blister from when I tried for over an hour to start our darn lawn mower!  Yes I do help mow the lawn at our house, it is a big job.  But now I have an excuse, “I can’t start the mower!”

#11 Pocket papers:  These were in my pocket.  One is a sticky note of the size we needed to replace the carpet pad from the window well flood last week.  The other cards are our annual passes to the aquarium that we just purchased.  We thought $36 for 2 adults and 2 kids was a great price for a family activity to last all year.

#12 Hair ties:  Like I said, I have lots of hair and I do not like it in my face.  So these can be found all around the house, in a variety of colors.

#13 Pearl Necklace: I am guessing this is from wearing to church on Sunday.  I do not wear pearls everyday.  From one of my favorite stores DownEast Basics.  I think half my wardrobe is from there!

#14 Tweezers:  I am kind of obsessed with tweezing and popping things!  It is not that I want my eyebrows or face to look perfect I just think it is fun and addicting.  I know I should probably be admitted.  SHHH do not tell anyone about my obsession.

#15 His and Hers SoniCare Toothbrushes:  We love SoniCare electric toothbrushes.  I believe that these are the reasons there are not many cavities in our house.  I know they can be pricey especially the new heads, (So rude when they do that $10 for a new printer but $100 for new cartridges that you will need to replace every week!)  but so worth it!

So did the stuff on my vanity tell you lots about me?  I think so!

Now your turn, what is on your bathroom vanity?

Office Redecorating is on Hold

Last week I moved everything out of our office/craft room.

I thought the only way to organize and go through it all was to get it all out of the room first.

So this is what the guest room looks like with all the supplies, computer, paper, files, tools, wraping paper, ribbon and more.

I then painted the office and was getting ready to start to put everything back into the office by organizing, labeling and sorting.

Then we experienced a freak rainSTORM yesterday and when I walked downstairs I was shocked to see the office window well full with rainwater and it coming through the crack of the window.

What would you do?

Grab a bucket to get the water out of the well

A towel to stop water from coming in

Or go for help?

I went for help and ran to my neighbors and in the next 15 minutes had 7 people at my house with buckets asking how they can help.

Unfortunatly water had already gotten though and soaked half the carpet.

So this is what the office now looks like.

Carpet is pulled up and fans are running.

Once it is dry we have new pad to lie down and we will stretch the carpet and then I can get back to redecorating the office.

But the paint color looks nice right?

And one more picture for you…

My son snapped this of me when I was taking the camera away from him.  I look pregnant and I am not!

Anyone want to join me at the gym tomorrow 🙂

Welcome to Love My Element

I have had a family blog now for 3 years.  Periodically I would post a recent craft, a new recipe or a home renovation project.  But, these posts would always seem out of place and random amongst our daily family activities.

I finally decided to start a separate blog for all the creative and fun things I do when not busy with everything else going on.

I read once that, “your element is where passion and skills collide”.  This quote resonated with me and what I do in my free time.  This is why I decided to title my blog, Love My Element.

When I thought about what I wanted to focus on with my blog I could not decide from the many random hobbies and activities I enjoy doing.  So if you chose to read or follow my blog here are some of the many hats I wear:

(actually my boys bring in the eggs)

(I guess I should admit I painted this from looking here. Shh don’t tell)

(Ok, my husband built the shelves, but it was my idea)

Amateur Photographer

(that is continually wanting to improve)

(Or at least I like to think so)

( Who is only a year old so he will be getting bigger!)

(These were for my son’s 4th birthday)

So how could I have a single subject blog with all these things I enjoy doing?  So if any of these subjects interest you, follow or subscribe to Love My Element and become a fan on facebook.
